Don’t confuse fairness with justice…
…or unfairness with injustice

In our 10-part series, Political Class Wealth Redistribution, OCGJ detailed well-documented cases of the political class money laundering citizen class tax dollars, the most egregious explained by the secretive 2003 BRAC Initiative Agreement between Greene County and the Dayton Development Coalition, a private non-profit corporation. Instead of spending $1.9 million on economic development as the Ohio Revised Code dictates, the Coalition redistributed our tax dollars for over-the-top salaries to Coalition executives, the Greentree Group (a big GOP campaign donor), and The PMA Group, a defunct lobbying firm that gave illegal campaign contributions to dozens of congressmen including Dave Hobson and Steve Austria.
The political class is very prolific at redirecting our tax dollars toward insider cronies, but they often take that one step further by rationing (in)justice in favor of their inner circle. They collect our tax dollars and then use the courts to cover up the corruption allowing the real criminals to walk away free to enjoy their new-found wealth gained at the expense of the citizen class.
Our children often hear, “Life is not fair…..deal with it.” This implies that unfairness is a human condition that we are powerless to change, so we may as well move on and matter-of-factly suffer through negative consequences no matter how unfair, unjust or even illegal. No sense in fighting unfairness as this will only make our lives more difficult. Don’t bother pushing back on injustice or heavy-handed bureaucracies as they will just make it more painful. Just move along until confronted by the next unfair event, turn the other cheek and be on your way. Don’t take any risks that take you out of your comfort zone even though it may offer the opportunity to improve your circumstances and those for the people around you. Why should you take any risk at all when everyone else is looking out for themselves?
True enough, there are many things in life that are sometimes unfair including office politics, pay-to-play politics, nepotism, racial discrimination, reverse discrimination caused by affirmative action, the income tax code, using the income tax code against political enemies and bullying, to name a few. The problem OCGJ has with this is that the lines between unfair, unjust and even illegal are often blurred. We never tell or kids, “life is unjust…..deal with it,” because that “life is unfair” quote is manufactured by selfish, egocentric, lazy, risk averse parasites who have no intention of playing by the rules. They rationalize a little unfairness is O.K. to create a competitive advantage, but when that fades to unjust or illegal, rarely do we push back, and that is precisely what the political class relies on. Why they even own the courts, which should offer a sanctuary to fight injustice, but instead are a tool often used by the political class to wear us down so we will surrender in our fight against injustice.
One good reason to put some skin in the game now is that if we don’t push back, it will only get worse until a police state takes complete control. In the mid-19th Century Frederick Douglas wisely observed, “Find out just what the people will submit to and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.” Look around, we may not be far from that tipping point. When that happens, if it hasn’t already, reversing course will be much more painful, if not impossible and the great American Dream will be lost forever.
